7 Summits 24th Aug 2011

The "Seven Summits Tour" with our junior chef Gerhard

On 24th of  August 2011 it was the day! Gerhard hiked the first time the new "The Seven Summits" tour! Here are some impressions:

This new mountain hike is a really unique highlight! Despite the very challenging climbs and descents, you will be rewarded with incredible panoramic views from all seven summits! There are also beautiful clear views to the Hohe Tauern, the Grossglockner, the Wilder Kaiser and many more.

The tour is almost 24 kilometers long. Throughout the tour about 1600 meters ascent and 2100 meters descent have to be coped and a walking time of about 9 to 11 hours has to be scheduled!

The tour starts with the Schattberg XPress. There you also get the Seven Summits chip, which is necessary to log in at the top terminals! The well marked path leads from the Stemmerkogel (2.123m) over the Hochkogel (2.249m) to the most difficult climb of the tour - the Hochsaalbachkogel (2.212m). The tour continues over the Bärensteigkogel (2.225m), the Manlitzkogel (2.247m) and the Mittagskogel (2.092m) to the final highlight and highest peak of the Glemmvalley, the Geißstein (2.363m).

We want to point out that this tour is ONLY for tried-and-tested individualists who are physically fit mountaineers. Good shoes (very good sole, ankle-high) are absolutely necessary, just as functional clothing (several layers), provisions (no stops along this tour), water in sufficient quantity (at least 4l), sunglasses and sunscreen, first aid kit, hat/cap, cell phone (mountain rescue tel.no.: 140), headlamp. A refuge is located between Sommertor and Manlitzkogel at about 2.050m.

In addition to the unique panoramic views as a reward you can collect a Seven Summits Explorer hat at the tourist office. :-)
